Alpine and Calaveras County

The area covered by the two counties include the gold country of California and the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. Alpine county borders on Lake Tahoe and the Nevada State line. You can do a day trip to Lake Tahoe from lake Alpine over Ebbets Pass.

A nice day trip is to visit Grover Hot Springs and Markleeville. It is about a one hour and forty-five minute drive over the Ebbetts Pass - highway 4 - the road is narrow and steep but beautiful.  Map of county Alpine County.

   Calaveras Big Trees Association

Be sure to visit Calaveras Big Trees State Park. It is located on highway 4 about 22 miles west of Lake Alpine. Don't miss the Dog Wood trees blooming in the spring or their fall colors (red).
